Items You Must Have For A Outdoor Emergency Kit

Emergencies happen, and of course no one ever knows when they might happen. A day hiking trip can turn into a nightmare in a matter of minutes, so it is best to prepare for the worst.

Start with a waterproof or water repellent backpack or fanny pack, one that has a secure holder for a water bottle.

1. A full water bottle, keep in mind water weighs eight pounds per gallon, weight can be a factor.

2. Energy bars in the original wrapper.

3. Water purification tablets or drops, usually these are iodized.Never heard of this before? Get up to speed here.

4. Pack some waterproof matches.

5. Have an emergency blanket one that folds into a very small size that can be easily packed.

6. An all purpose knife, many times called a multi-tool.

7. Purchase a pack of glow sticks they are very reliable light in any weather.

8. Pack a small first aid kit.

9. Personal hygiene items, items like this can be comforting in times of stress beside their practical uses.

10. Rain poncho or rain suit a compass and a whistle, the whistle of course to alert others that help is needed.

The items listed are by no means the only items needed. It is a good idea to have a dedicated spot for a backpack or fanny pack. Keep it stocked with items for that day hike or overnight camping trip. Inventory periodically to insure items are not outdated or can no longer be used.
